Oregon Spine Care - Prescription Policy

This policy is advised by the board of Medical Examiners and is intended to facilitate safe and effective medical care.

  • Pain Medications will only be prescribed by this office following a surgery performed by our physicians.
  • Please allow 72 hours for prescription refill requests.
  • Pain Medications will be prescribed for the first 90 days following a surgery- after which patients should contact their Primary care Doctor for continued refills.
  • Prescriptions will be refilled after 4pm, not on weekends or holidays, or on Fridays.
  • Pain medications are prescribed as a set number of tablets per 24 hours. If they are used before the set refill date without prior discussion with physician, they will not be refilled early.
  • Pain Medications reported lost, stolen, destroyed, etc. will not be refilled early.
  • KEEP YOUR MEDICATIONS IN A SAFE PLACE.

We expect patients taking pain medications to agree to:

  • Not receive any pain medications from any other physician.
  • Inform the physician about all medications you are taking in addition to the pain medications, including over the counter medications such as Tylenol, Ibuprofen, and Aspirin.
  • Not consume alcohol while on narcotics and to inform us if using alcohol to control pain.
  • Be aware that some medications cannot be called in and the prescription will need to be picked up.
  • Be aware narcotics may cause changes in appetite, sleep, sexual desire/performance, mood as well as cause drowsiness, constipation, delayed reaction times (driving), ETC.
  • Not stop the pain medications, unless instructed by your physician as it can lead to significant withdrawal and rebound pain symptoms.
